oh and i bought a new tomato plant too

its called "green grapes" some tomato website says: This old-fashioned tomato is an heirloom originally developed by the Tater Mater Seed Co. from crossing the Yellow Pear with Evergreen. The distinctive, 1 inch, yellowish green fruits are borne in clusters of 6-12 that resemble large muscat grapes. Fruit has a translucent pale-green on the inside. This variety has become popular in restaurants and markets because of their unique attractiveness and great flavor.

seems like i'm updating this weekly

which makes sense, plants grow pretty slow. well, my tomatoes (tomaters?) have ripened some, the black prince tomatoes are now sort of squishy and browny/purple.

re-staked the tomatoes, and pruned them

so this morning i re-staked the plants and pruned them, removing the suckers, which is supposed to promote growth and make healthier fruit. I guess in between branches there are smaller branches called "suckers" which you are supposed to take off. Also, you should trim the lowest branches off, the internet says, to keep the leaves off the ground.

9 days later

and i've got tomatoes. actual, tomatoes. the plants are much bigger now, it seems like they've doubled in size since when i got them. I've been giving them miracle grow for tomatoes once a week for three weeks now, does it work? i don't know. I suspect they are green zebra tomatoes

a little over a week later

its monday and the rain sucks. on friday i watered the tomatoes again with miracle gro for tomatoes. i'm worried i water them to much, but i tend to freak out a little when the leaves get droopy.
I think they've grown some

Anyway, they're also developing some flowers, which will develop into tomatoes, i think.

This is about my Tomatoes

This is a blog about my tomatoes. I'm basically going to take pictures of the plants each day and look at the results. I bought the tomatoes as really small plants, and I've had them for about two weeks now. They've grown some. I water them probably too often.

I have three tomato plants, one is a Green Zebra which is not a heirloom tomato at all. Wikipedia says this "Green Zebra was bred by Tom Wagner of Everett, Washington, and introduced in his Tater-Mater Seed Catalog in 1983"

One is a Black Prince tomato. wikipedia doesn't say anything about them, but some other website says "Originally from Siberia, this is one of the most popular and favored black tomatoes. Originally introduced from Irkutsk"

The last is Snow White tomatoes, and a website says "74 days. Lycopersicon esculentum. Plant produces good yields of white cherry tomatoes. " I don't know what most of that means and I'm too lazy to look it up.
